02Call us, or call 911?

When to call us, and when to call 911

For most questions, call us. But some signs mean you need emergency care right now, before anything else.

Call us if

  • You want to stop drinking or using and need help with withdrawal.
  • You're worried about someone you love and don't know what to do next.
  • You've tried to cut back and felt shaky, sick, sweaty or panicky.
  • You're a professional, and your client needs detox or residential care.
  • You have questions about your PPO, cost or what a stay is like.

Get emergency care first if

  • Someone may have overdosed, won't wake up, or isn't breathing normally. Call 911. If you have naloxone (Narcan), use it.
  • Someone has a seizure, chest pain, or a high fever with shaking.
  • Someone is very confused or sees things that aren't there during withdrawal. This can be delirium tremens (DTs).
  • Someone is thinking about suicide. Call or text 988, or call 911.

Safety comes first.

Call us once the danger has passed.

03Our license, in plain words

A licensed home, not just a house

California treats a licensed home with six or fewer residents as a residential use of property, like a family home. It still has to meet state rules for safety, beds, linens and staffing. Health & Safety Code § 11834.23 · 9 CCR § 10581

04What happens when you call

Four steps, sometimes all in one day

Calling doesn't commit you to anything. It just starts a plan. Here's the order, every time.

  1. 1

    A short phone screening

We ask what you use, when you last used, your medicines, your health and your safety. Your answers tell us if our house is a safe fit for you.

  2. 2

    An insurance check

If you have a PPO plan, we verify its out-of-network benefits for free and tell you if we can accept it. If we can't, we'll connect you with a trusted program that can.

  3. 3

    A bed check

We have six beds. We'll tell you honestly when the next one opens.

  4. 4

    Plan your arrival

We help you plan the drive and what to pack. When all four steps line up, you may be able to come in the same day.

Have these ready if you can

  • What you use, how much, and when you last used
  • The names of your medicines and doses
  • Your insurance card, front and back
  • A photo ID
  • A safe number where we can call you back

Don't have everything? Call anyway. We can start with what you know. If our house isn't the right fit, we'll help you find a program that is. You can also search FindTreatment.gov, run by the federal government.

One call. Four steps.

Sometimes all in the same day.

05Send a message

Write to us in private

Fill out the form, and we'll reply within the hour, day or night. Tell us the best way to reach you and if we may leave a message.

  • A secure inbox. Messages go to an inbox covered by a HIPAA business associate agreement. 45 CFR § 164.504(e)
  • Keep it short. Please save medical details for the phone call.
  • Your choice of contact. Pick call, text or email. If you pick text, we'll only text you about your message. Message and data rates may apply. You can ask us to stop texting at any time.
  • Professionals: choose "A client or patient" so the right person replies.

Write when talking is hard.

We'll answer within the hour.

10Paying for treatment

Paying for treatment with a PPO plan

We're an out-of-network provider. We have no contract with any insurance company, but many PPO plans may help pay for detox and residential treatment here. We check your benefits for free and go over them with you by phone.

Most of our clients use their PPO plan's out-of-network benefits. Clients have used plans like these. We are not in network with any of them, and coverage depends on your plan. Self-pay is also available.

  • Aetna
  • Anthem Blue Cross
  • Cigna
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • UMR
  • Meritain Health
  • GEHA (federal employees)
  • Out-of-state Blue Cross Blue Shield PPOs
  • Employer-sponsored PPO plans
  • Other PPO plans

Have these ready when you call: your insurance card, front and back. The plan holder's name and birth date. A list of the medicines you take.

Not accepted: HMO plans, Medi-Cal or any other type of insurance. We work with PPO plans only. On Medi-Cal in Los Angeles County? Call the county's substance use helpline at 1-844-804-7500. LA County SAPC

How your insurance check works

  1. Share your PPO details. Call us, or use our insurance form.
  2. We verify your benefits for free. We check your plan's out-of-network benefits with your insurance company.
  3. You get a clear yes or no. We call you back and tell you if we can accept your plan.
  4. If it's a no, you're not on your own. We'll connect you with a trusted program that takes your plan.

We never pay or receive money for referrals.

Questions & answers

Questions about contacting us

Calling & privacy

Is calling a treatment center confidential?

Yes. Federal law adds extra privacy rules for addiction treatment. Calling doesn't commit you to anything. We won't share your call with your family or boss unless you agree in writing. The law allows a few rare exceptions, like a medical emergency.

Can I call for a family member?

Yes, and many families do. We'll answer your questions, explain detox and residential treatment, and help you plan a calm talk. We can't admit an adult without their consent, but you can make the first call.

Will you tell me if my loved one is there?

Only if they've agreed in writing. Federal rules for addiction treatment programs don't let us confirm that someone is a client without their consent. With their written consent, we can keep you updated.

Can I text instead of calling?

Yes. Text +1 (747) 500-4969 any time. It's a good choice if you can't talk out loud right now. Keep medical details for a phone call when you can.

Can I get help in another language?

Just ask. Our admissions team speaks English. If you speak another language, we'll do our best to connect you with a native speaker.

Getting in

What happens when I call?

A short phone screening, an insurance check, a bed check, then a plan for your arrival. We ask about what you use, your last use, your medicines and your safety. If our house isn't the right fit, we'll help you find one that is.

Can I get into detox today?

It's possible. Same-day admission can happen when your phone screening is done, your insurance is checked and a bed is open. Call +1 (747) 500-4969 to find out today.

Do I need a referral or a doctor's note?

No. You can call us yourself. A referral from a doctor, therapist or case manager is welcome, but you don't need one to get started.

Does my PPO cover out-of-network detox?

Many PPO plans have out-of-network benefits that may help pay. We're out-of-network with every insurance company, so coverage depends on your plan. We check your plan's benefits for free and tell you if we can accept it. If we can't, we'll connect you with a trusted program that can.

Do you take Medi-Cal, HMO or other insurance?

No. We work with PPO plans only. We don't accept HMO plans, Medi-Cal or any other type of insurance. Call us anyway, and we'll connect you with a trusted program that takes your plan. You can also search by insurance on FindTreatment.gov.

Getting here & visits

Where do I park?

In the lot at the top of the driveway, in front of the house. Look for the chain-link fence at 12000 Highwater Rd, drive up the hill, and park. The lot has room for 6 to 8 cars. Call us when you pull up, and we'll meet you.

Can I just show up?

No, we don't take walk-ins. Every stay starts with a phone call, so we can make sure our house is safe for you and a bed is ready. Contact us first, even if you're nearby.

Can family visit?

Yes, any day of the week. Set up each visit ahead of time with our program director, so it fits around groups and protects everyone's privacy.

Can I drop off things for a client?

Yes. You can drop off things like clothes and toiletries. Every package is opened and checked with our staff there, for everyone's safety.

How far is it from the airport?

About 13 miles from Hollywood Burbank Airport and about 30 miles from LAX. Drive times vary with traffic. Call us before you book a flight, and we'll help you plan your arrival.
